Under the Sun
Conceived and realized during an artist residency across San Francisco and New York in autumn 2024, Under the Sun examines optical displacement and the somatic politics of light.
Conditioned by the dense, vertical concrete ravines of Hong Kong, the body enters foreign territory with an instinctual reliance on ambient shadow. Encountering the unyielding exposure of the American expanse, sunlight ceases to function merely as climate—it arrives as an aggressive physical mass. Through high-contrast black-and-white photography, this residency research records the sensory shock of unmediated glare, interrogating how geographic relocation reshapes our bodily thresholds and the architecture of looking."
